Avoiding Certain Foods Can Spare Your Pearly Whites

Summer is right around the corner and it’s time to start thinking about some delicious foods to include on summer menus. However, not all of those foods are the best idea for those who are trying to optimize their pretty white teeth. If you have plans to eat some of these items, you may want to consider some of the alternatives that are easier on your mouth overall.

Strawberries and Blueberries

These fruits are incredibly good for you, and no one is denying that; however, they also have a downside for your mouth. Both of these fruits tend to stain your teeth. If you are going to be eating foods that contain either of these fruits, make sure that you brush as soon as possible after you are done eating. If that just is not realistic, make sure you swish some water around in your mouth to remove as much of the staining as you can until you can brush them away.

Popsicles Are a Summer Staple

Popsicles are another common staple all summer long. They can also be really good for you, when they are made of fruit juice. However, you have to be careful of the flavors that you pick. If you pick grape or berry, you will likely face the same type of staining as eating fresh or frozen berries. Instead, pick flavors like lemon or watermelon which are much less likely to stain your teeth. And as always, brush as soon as you can after enjoying!

What Is Summertime Without the Barbeque?

When most people think of summer get-togethers, they think about barbeques. The problem with that is that typically includes barbeque sauce. While it may taste great, it also has a lot of different ingredients that can do a number on your teeth. When you eat barbeque sauce, you are putting vinegar, corn syrup, tomato paste, sugar, and dyes directly on your teeth. This can easily stain your teeth and damage your teeth if left on them. If you enjoy some barbeque sauce this summer, make sure to rinse right away, and brush at your earliest convenience.

Taking care to eat things that are not going to stain your teeth is not always easy, but most things do have an alternative that is safer for you. If you are about to embark on a summertime of get-togethers, reunions, and late-night barbeques, make sure to include these tips to keep your teeth looking their best!
