How to Prevent Teeth Stains
Can I prevent stains from coffee/wine/other on my teeth? If so, how?
You can prevent stains from coffee, wine, and some other foods to a certain extent. The number one thing you can do is make sure you keep your teeth clean. This is brushing and flossing two times a day for 2 minutes as well as seeing your dentist two times a year for a regular check-up and cleaning. This will serve a couple purposes. It will remove everyday stains and plaque from your teeth. It will also keep your teeth smooth and less likely to allow the stain to attach.
Another way to prevent stains is to limit the amount of time you spend drinking or eating these highly staining drinks and foods. The less contact they have with the teeth, the lesser the extent of the staining. You can also chew a sugar-free gum for 15-20 minutes after eating or drinking to limit the stains on your teeth.
Using these tips along with your normal oral hygiene, you should be able to prevent most stains on your teeth. For the normal discoloration that occurs over time, whitening might be a better option for you. It’s recommended that you consult your dentist before any whitening.
