Life seems to get busier and busier every year that passes. With that craziness comes new habits or trends. Oftentimes, these trends are damaging to your oral health, but because of the convenience or excitement of it, you neglect to see the damage that is occurring. Coming face to face with your habits and the damages they are causing could help you realize how you need to change your routine in order to save your oral health.

The Coffee Trend

Starbucks and other specialty coffee chains are everywhere, making it easy for you to get your coffee fix, not only in the morning, but throughout the day. While the jolt of caffeine might give you the boost you need to get you through the rest of your day, the coffee itself is doing serious harm to your teeth. Not only does it stain your pearly whites, but some of these coffee drinks contains high amounts of sugar.

Getting so Busy that you Skip your Dentist Appointments

Many of us get so caught up in the day-to-day activities that we forget about going to the dentist. If we do remember, we brush it off as unnecessary because we just don’t have time and nothing is wrong in our mouth at the moment. While this might seem like a good idea, it can really damage your oral health now and in the future. Regular check-ups, even when nothing is wrong is the best way to catch diseases and problems in their earliest stages as well as to remove any bacteria and plaque that have accumulated in your mouth.

Grabbing Convenient Food

Fast food chains, convenience stores, and food stands all make it very tempting to grab something fast and eat it, rather than creating a healthy meal at home. Sometimes we just think it is easier, when it reality, it costs you more on your healthcare and dental care needs. Fast food is usually so high in carbohydrates and sugar that it causes serious damage to your teeth, putting you at risk for decay and gum disease with just this habit.

Don’t make the mistake of giving in to today’s trends or getting so caught up in your daily life that you neglect your oral health. Instead, focus on your health and what is necessary to stay on top of it, occasionally indulging in your favorite coffee drink or fast food, but not making it a regular habit.
